I swear, that's a Surly Cross-Check.
Surl...Aaron,

I swear, that's a Surly Cross-Check.

Surly puts downtube shifter bosses on a lot of their frames, including the Cross-check Long Haul Trucker (which I have). Some sort of "you should be able to configure a bike however you like" philosophy.

If you get a complete CC or LHT (instead of just a frame) from Surly, that's exactly the configuration: bar end shifters routed to cable-stops on the downtube shifter bosses, canti brakes, etc. Looks like those might even be the stock handlebars.Eric (freiheit)https://www.blogger.com/profile/15042069302907938685noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924920310995639849.post-45558030091190433162009-04-17T09:51:00.000-04:002009-04-17T09:51:00.000-04:00Aaron,

Come to think of it, that's really what she wants in a bike too...Charlottehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08036691849337099909noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924920310995639849.post-36457011923583424462009-04-17T05:45:00.000-04:002009-04-17T05:45:00.000-04:00Charlotte,

I...Charlotte,
It does resemble the Crosscheck. But,
I still think it is something else. My best guess would be mid to late 80's. To me the big giveaway is the downtube shifter bosses where he has the cable stops for the bar ends mounted. I did that with a couple of my much older (early 70's) bikes. Without hunting the guy down and asking we will never really know ;-) This one thing that makes bikes so interesting is the sheer volume of customization that can be done at relative low cost, providing one with "the perfect" ride. LOL

FWIW I had someone ready to swear that my Redline R530 was an antique bike...

Aaron2whls3spdshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16954543886269776858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924920310995639849.post-48968773986636831122009-04-16T15:29:00.000-04:002009-04-16T15:29:00.000-04:00Aaron,

The Surly has a different frame shape.

Still a classy ride!

Aaron2whls3spdshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16954543886269776858noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7924920310995639849.post-3665436380414549952009-04-16T10:14:00.000-04:002009-04-16T10:14:00.000-04:00Those are actually Reelights - they are from a Dan...Those are actually Reelights - they are from a Danish company, and work based on electrodynamic induction. You screw two magnets onto the spokes of the wheel (opposite each other so they are balanced), and as the magnets pass the light, they generate electricity. The newer ones have a capacitor in them as well so they store up a bit of energy for when you're stopped. Pretty cool idea.Dave Feuchthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06103790541088515008noreply@blogger.com
