The Electra Amsterdam has been released in a fancier Classic 3 "Tulip" model, with a tulip motif on the saddle, grips, and mudflaps.
Does the dolling up of the Amsterdam mean that the model was a smashing success and consumers are demanding more models?
Or does it mean that Americans didn't really care for a subdued utility bicycle and they prefer form over function?
Of the two, which bike would you choose?

I had wanted to buy an Amsterdam when I was shopping for a new bike last week, but was sadly advised that these bikes have been recalled:

So I picked up a Trek 7300 that has a similar retro-feel and I've gotten nothing but compliments ever since:

I think you know my answer :)
ReplyDeleteI love the color on the first one. I go for style (as evidenced by my mint green Bianchi Milano step-through), so I'd say if I'm spending that much money and therefore would feel I couldn't paint the frame and "ruin" my brand-new bike, I'd go for the yellow which already has some personality.
ReplyDeletethe yellow is SUPER cute, but nothing beats classy black. also yellow is kind of aggressively cute.
ReplyDeleteThe yellow with tulips is cute, but maybe a little too cute for my tastes.
ReplyDeleteI thought about getting the warhol amsterdam when I purchased mine, but I remembered how much my taste is constantly changing and I didn't want to be stuck with something I would get sick of.
ReplyDeleteThey are both awesome, although I prefer white and tan ;)
I have just found your blog, and have recently started commuting to work for the past month. (Loving it!)
ReplyDeleteI would have to rock the yellow one, it's too much fun.
The yellow one is very cute but it wouldn't match my outfits! :)
ReplyDeleteah....
ReplyDeletebeaten to the CPSC punch!
