Unusual Frame spotted on Newbury Street

I've seen frames where the seat tube hugs the outline of the rear wheel, but this was the first frame I'd seen where the seat tube straddles the wheel. Given the triangle formed there it almost looks like the lovechild of a mixte and GT.

And it's local, from Icarus in Somerville:

That is fascinating! I wonder if it's a frame builder who's experimenting, or if these are something that are found for the public to purchase and just haven't caught on yet?

woah,

I'm not sure about the utility or commodity of that, but it IS eye catching!

In the early 1980's, Rigi bicycles had the "split seat tube" of the frame in the photo. But, in contrast with the bike in the photo, its seat tube was not curved.

I love that shade of green, by the way!

I was going to say that's probably Icarus, but Elisabeth beat me to it! Icarus makes some very interesting frames, truly unexpected designs. The Icarus framebuilder shared a studio with the builder who made my custom mixte, so I've seen some of his work in various stages of completion. The direction a frame would take, even if it started out looking "normal" was always a surprise. If Salvador Dali made bicycles, they might have looked like what Icarus makes.
