For Pat: The Liberty Hotel Bike Service
On my way to work after the Bike Week party I did a double-take when I saw all these beautiful Electra bikes all lined up. It was damp this morning, which must be why they have those saddle covers.
Hotel guests get to use them for up to 4 hours free. After that it's $5/hour.

that freaking rocks. makes me wish I didn't live here and could stay there. Shit- maybe the Nr and I will finally do that overnight in the city for two plan and we'll stay there and we'll bike around. I keep hearing good things about the liberty. My only issue is it's right next door to my old place of work ( MGH) and last june sat at the outside bar which looked at the entrance to the hospital and I felt less that festive...
Heh, that's the exact bike I have (minus the front basket). Feels weird seeing so many brand new ones lined up, like they've been cloned or something (I always think of inanimate objects as sentient beings, especially ones I really like, like my bike) :)
that service would be perfect for hotels! I'm surprised that hasn't caught on here in toronto!
This is a wonderful service. I wish our hotels did this in Flag. With our mountain biking reputation and urban trail system, I think it would be a money maker.
I'll stay there next time I go to Boston.
Looks pretty too.
That is such a fantastic idea! Jealous.
In addition to Boston's Liberty Hotel, a number of other hotels are now providing guests with complimentary bikes. Here are a few to check out:
Gansevoort South in Miami has glow-in-the-dark Puma bikes, The Bowery NYC has branded Red Earth cruisers, The James Chicago offers Paul Frank versions and Element - the new LEED certified brand from Starwood Hotels - offers free Trek bicycles. There's actually an Element located just outside of Boston in Lexington, MA. Check it out - http://www.starwoodhotels.com/element/index.html
Great post and series of comments. I've included references to this in a longer post on renting bicyles while traveling on business at www.executivenomad.com.
