Boston Tweed Ride

Boston Tweed Ride 2009
The Boston Tweed Ride was a right good time, with at least 98 cyclists in their finest kit, a lovely mobile tea party, and beautiful bikes.

We were a cheery lot and may have recruited several new riders for next year, and there will be a next year.

This group photo is courtesy of Maileen Salazar, there are many more photos being added to the Boston Tweed Ride Flickr Pool and there's a spread at Bostonist.

Wow, 98 riders! That's way more than we've gotten in Chicago. Awesome.

Yeah Dottie, we didn't think to count 'till about halfway, that was the count then but we think we might have lost a few - we had a beautiful pregnant Edwardian-styled rider who needed to go home, and perhaps others. I want to call it an even 100 but we can't be sure.

It was amazing given the weather this weekend. An absolute downpour on Saturday. The sun came out JUST as the ride started rolling. It was perfect.

About two, ummmmmm, decades ago I was house sitting; and they had moths. Before I realized it all my tweed (except for my Irish Fisherman's hat, which seems impervious) was ruined. My irreplaceable Zapotec Indian poncho (a real poncho, not a Sears poncho) as well.

I've been keeping my eye open, but I haven't been able to find anything I like at a reasonable price since then, and as I haven't been doing the Academia Thang haven't been under any social pressure to acquire anyway.

So, y'all planning any "Breaker Morant" rides in future? I got the clothes for that.

I had a feeling the Boston Tweed Ride would be just fantastic! What a great event, such beautiful weather for the ride and such dapper lads and lasses!
Oooh, I'm getting a TWEED rush!

I really like the photos through the Back Bay and Copley Place! Wish I could've made it but had other standing plans for that Sunday afternoon.

Hopefully next year will work out to be more amenable.

Is the 3-speed club still planning on having monthly rides?

Oh nice! What a fabulous turnout, and the photos are great. This looks like it was much more fun than the conference I had to attend. Glad to see that it was such a success and hope that this is the start of a long tradition.

I do believe that the 3-speed club will continue to have monthly rides, they certainly with if you join the group.

I was thinking about you guys when I came back from my retreat! Sounds like it was a good time. Although 98 people makes me feel a bit intimidated!!! I tend to avoid crowds though...

I joined the group back when it was starting. Great to see that the membership has increased from 12 to 46 since then!

Well, I'm out in the cold alone again. You kids and your fancy mechanical "gears.

kfg - I am sure they would not leave you out in the cold. You can interpret the name of the club loosely, as "up to three".

Well, technically I DO actually have three. I just have to get off the bike and move things around by hand to change them. Saves me the worry of the old Sturmey-Archer dump onto the top tube.

It's a wonder my voice ever changed.

Wow! As a member of the New Sheridan Club, a reader of the Chap Magazine, owner of both a Pashley Roadster and some tweed and finally a Britisher; I am very envious of your Tweed Ride - looks fabulous.

All I have to do is start saving to ship myself and Pash over the pond to join you next time... you lucky lucky things!
