Happy Halloween!

Critical Mass Halloween
This photo is from last year's Critical Mass. Anyone out there with plans to costume your bicycle? I'd love to hear what you're up to!

Pumpkin head!
We are most likely going to Salem tomorrow, so will hopefully get some Haloweeny bike shots. Unfortunately, I do not think there is a good bike route to Salem - especially for returning after dark? So we may have to drive them.

I went on the "Boston halloween bike ride" that went from JP to Harvard sq and back. There were really some incredible costumes that people had spent a lot of time fabricating. I'd never heard of it before, but it's evidently a yearly event, and there were about 300 people. More at

I was the wicked witch of the west, which was easily recognized by bystanders, and was pretty simple to put together. The hat on top of my helmet was like a giant sail though on a gusty night. yikes!

Oh Filigree, Salem's the best because they have the bike car on the train going into North Station! I really do have to find those photos.

Hope you had a great time!

Cycler - What was the name of the witch before she wore her witch costume? I want to be her next year, then I can justify buying a black Raleigh! :)

Decided not to bother w Salem; stayed home instead and did a "tour" of our favourite historic places. No trains or cars, just fresh haunted air!

originally, the Wicked Witch of the West did not have a name. In the Wicked stories, she's called Elphaba.

This year, the girl and I went as Mina Harker and Allan Quartermain as depicted in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The Quartermain costume (minus elephant gun, but with bush hat, breeches and spats) would've been quite appropriate for reuse in a tweed ride.

Elmira Gulch was the name of the "counterpart" to the WWotW

I've always wanted to take my bike up to the north shore on the commuter rail, have just never taken the time to figure it out.
