Enjoy the last days of Summer

woman park bench bike Boston
While the men are on the Esplanade, it seems the women are reading on benches in smaller gardens. I think Mike's right that they're less likely to be part of a "scene" while tucked into these smaller places.

Or perhaps this is all a gross over-simplification. Either way, I hope you enjoy these last stunningly beautiful days of summer.

Yes, ironic in these parts - think the weather has been pretty much the same in New England as in La Nouvelle France - the height of the summer sun saw drizzle every day and not many sumptuous warm days. Now I pulled out a gauzey Indian skirt (knee length) in many colours to cycle, but the sun sets early as in your picture, inducing autumnal melancholy. And thoughts of bicycle lights, and for women and other vulnerable people, thoughts of aggression.

I'm your mum's age - not so many chaps are chatting me up on the street any more but a creep was very, very rude and aggressive to me today, because I got on my bicycle a couple of metres from the corner (it was safer to do so and enter the street on one of those disabled-people slopes) deliberately standing in front of me and shouting that the sidewalks were for "people", not bikes. I fully agree that cyclists should not habitually ride on the sidewalks, but this was macho abuse. He would never had dared to be so aggressive to another man, as he'd have received a jaw full of fist.

(There was nobody else on the sidewalk and he deliberately jumped into my way to harass me. I'm not rude - I don't cycle in the face of pedestrians).

Still seething about that s*head....

... espece de connard

Lagatta - I'm angry on your behalf. You're my mum's age so you deserve that much MORE respect from men on sidewalks. Grrrr.

Fortunately, I dealt with it in a psychologically-healthy way by going for a good bicycle ride - including a few laps around Jarry Park (easily googled) where I didn't have to deal with automobile traffic. Also observed some sweet young men playing soccer/footie who weren't remotely harassing)... It was such a heavenly day - and I didn't have any pressing work in the afternoon - couldn't let S-head steal my late-summer day, eh?

Well, I'm hardly decrepit and aged (cycle most of the year), but 50-somethings are somewhat more vulnerable than 20-somethings, much as we like to pretend otherwise...

Charlotte, comme ça tu parles français? C'est archi-chouette.

Lagatta,
Plus ou moins - j'ai passé une année à Paris. Si il y aurait un Boston - Montreal - Boston cette année j'aurais visiter Montreal. Un jour...
